Leo and Lyn Pretti started the business in 1980 with a single line pump at Shoal Bay. The name changed in 1983, and the fleet grew alongside the Hunter’s mining industry and Newcastle’s expanding skyline.
Today, we remain family-owned and operated, building on the experience and commitment that started it all.
Hunter Valley Concrete Pumping Service began in May 1980, operating from Leo and Lyn Pretti’s home at Shoal Bay with a single line pump. The work grew with the needs of the region, and so did the business.
By 1983, the business had taken its current name, with Hunter Valley mine work helping shape the standards we still operate by today: well-maintained equipment, current compliance and dependable crews ready when the site opens. Highway, rail and port projects for national builders followed, alongside Newcastle’s growing skyline and the steady demand for commercial slabs and residential pours.
Today, we operate from depots in Tomago and Dubbo, servicing projects Australia-wide. Our Schwing and Putzmeister fleet includes truck-mounted boom pumps from 20 to 58 metres, high-pressure line and trailer pumps, and separate placing booms, supported by expert operators and qualified specialist mechanics.
Still family-owned and operated. Still answering the phone with someone who knows the fleet. From our first line pump to our national operation, our saying remains the same:
Don’t Wheel It, Pump It.
Concrete pumping is high-risk work. Our people are the most important part of our business, and protecting them drives every aspect of how we operate.
Our commitment goes beyond meeting minimum requirements. We invest in ongoing training and skills development so our crews have the knowledge, confidence and support to recognise risks, raise concerns and work safely. We take compliance seriously because we care about the people behind the work.
“My business has been a customer with Hunter Valley Concrete Pumping Services for over 20 years. They are always professional & reliable and provide us with great rates. We will continue to use them in the future”

Volume, date, and what the access looks like. We will come back with the right unit for the job, and if the site is tricky we will look at it first.
